The topic today is choosing cigars. When choosing cigars from your local cigar store there are several factors to consider. First you have made the correct decision by going to a local shop instead of mail order. This allows you to talk to knowledgeable professional who can lead you in the right direction. It also allows you to see, touch, and smell the cigar. If there is a problem with the cigar while smoking most reputable shops will make it right, while that is hard to do through mail order. Second try to figure out where most of the cigars you smoke are made, there are three major areas for cigar manufacturing not including Cuba(not legal in US): Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaraugua. Each location brings its own unique flavor and strengths to the cigar. This will help you branch out into new cigars as you can communicate your likes to the clerk. Lastly do not choose cigars based on being soft or hard. A well humidified cigar can feel hard or soft due to types of tobacco and construction. A hard cigar may draw like a straw while a soft cigar may not draw at all. Remember a reputable shop will stand behind the cigars they sell. So introduce yourself to your local store clerk and build a relationship with them it will pay off.

Why should I use XIKAR PG Solution
instead of distilled water or 50/50? It is important that we inform consumers that a 50/50 PG solution will eventually clog up a foam or crystal humidifier - the 50% PG stays behind much longer than the 50% water. The PG ratio in your humidifier slowly goes from 50/50 to 75/25 to near 100% PG with each refill. Too much PG will pull all of the humidity out of the air! (100% PG will dehumidify to nearly 0% RH). A humidifier "clogs" as the PG/water ratio gets too rich in PG, regardless of what material is used to hold the solution. Green foam and crystals are only necessary to keep the solution from sloshing around or dripping out of a humidifier that is turned upside down. Consistent use of a 50/50 blend of PG/water will clog a humidifier over time. XIKAR PG solution is blended in a proprietary ratio to ensure the ratio of PG/water in your humidifier does not get too rich in PG. Maintaining the right ratio of PG/water is critical-- if the mixture gets off in either direction you are over or under humidifying your prized sticks. Refill your humidifiers with XIKAR PG Solution every time and use a XIKAR Hygrometer to take the guesswork out of humidification! Cutting a cigar.
There is a lot of confusion on the proper way to cut a cigar. Whether you use a punch, a guillotine, V-cut or your teeth, the object is to open the head of the cigar so you can draw through it. The main thing to remember is to not cut too much off. Part of the cap needs to stay on to keep the cigar from unraveling. If you are using a guillotine you can place it on a flat surface(desk top) put the head in it resting against the desk top and cut it. This will cut the correct amount off. If you use a punch or V-cut you do not need to worry about this. Finally if you do not have a cutter you can do what a lot of cigar smokers in the cigar factories do and use your teeth. Use your front teeth like you are pulling a splinter out of the cap on the cigar. Savoy small humidors are here. Check out the different finishes. New selection of pipes from BC are in.
